You strip off the tracksuit, select your favourite racquet (hopefully a Prince) and step onto court for a ‘knock’ – just to warm you up. Jim whacks one up and you, forgetting that you're not playing for the Town Hall clock, in fact not even playing, leap backwards and hit a clear, exercising a perfect scissor kick just like your coach taught you. Magic.

Shoulder injuries are also common. There is a wealth of information available on warm-up and stretching, but I will write about warming up for badminton in the future. A few minutes warming up, light jogging, sidestepping, and some stretching, could save you a lot of money on bandages.

Badminton is a great cardiovascular and even a total body workout. Few Indian politicians pay attention to the state of their health. Has being fit helped you in your career?

Today a lot of politicians hit the gym regular and take steps to stay healthy. In short it help perform better.

If you're lethargic, people will read that as disinterest in their problems and that can be perilous for a politician. When you're fit and healthy you can remain alert and show you receptive nature and readiness to react to any situation. Politics is unpredictable. Politics teaches you two things flexibility and spontaneity. There are a number of times when the best of plans fail. One needs to react with wit. Of course age and experience also helps you to develop this attitude. When a politician expires at say, 54, we say 'Hum ne ek yuva neta khoya' (We have lost a young leader). Politics is a profession where you have to work among your well wishers as well as foes. Is every relationship in politics calculated i. e. developed purely to meet certain goals?

You need time to build trust and develop it in others. No matter what field you're in, people are put off by arrogance.
